Welcome to HEJH and the Vocal Music Program!  We are excited to have such a great group of students involved in Cougar Choir this year and look forward to a great year!  A big welcome to our new accompanist, Ms. Pauline Humphrey!  Ms. Humphrey is a retired vocal music teacher, having spent 20 years teaching at Brink JH.  Her choirs consistently received Superior ratings at OSSAA events, and many students were selected for both COCDA and OCDA All-State choirs.  We are very fortunate to have her assisting in our classroom!
Calendar- Please let me know if your child did not recieve one of these
Boosters-Will be meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the HEJH Choir room. There will be a short meeting following teh concert on Oct. 12th.
Choir Activity fee-Please take care of this either on line or by sending it in with your student, and please let Mrs. B. know if you have any questions or need additional time.  We can split it in to 2 payments if need be. Required of all students, this fee is $40 and allows us to pay for buses, large group and ensemble fees for OSSAA contest and honor choir festival fees (except audition) for any child selected for those prestigious organizations.  In addition we use this to purchase addition music and room supplies as needed. We will start collecting this the first week of school and a form will go home with students.
T-Shirt-T-shirts are needed for all students for select performances, honor choirs and can also be worn to school as desired.  Students who participated in choir at HEJH for the 2016-17 school year already have theirs so we are using the same shirt this year. Only students who are brand-new to our program this year need to purchase a shirt.  I do have some available in my room and will place an additional order in September.  Additional shirts may be purchased by family members if desired.  Our t-shirt order for students will be going in the last week of September, please let Mrs. B know if you would like an additional shirt for other family members.
Honor Choirs- We have 7 students auditioning for COCDA on September 30 and 9 auditioning for JH All State on Oct. 28.  COCDA permission slips for the school van went home on Monday, Sept. 25 so please check with your child and get it returned to school before Friday.  ALso, no practice at SHS until Oct.5, we will have one here on September 28 from 2:30 to 3:30.  We will also be at MHS on Sept. 26 and have a 7am practice on Wednesday, Sept.27 for any who wish to attend.
Choir Dresses-The list of students selling choir dresses was forwarded to me from MHS but most of the girls did not include a size and you do need to know that.  We are trying to amend that so it can go out this week, or have your daughter see me if  you are interested in one of the ones we have in the room to try on (currently we have 5 left in a variety of sizes and they are $20.00 each). The directions to use the Tuxedo Wholesaler Outlet web site and get a really good deal on a new dress--or long black skirt will go home at that time as well, please let me know if you have any questions! If you have something you think will meet the criteria (floor length black dress, short sleeve/elbow or above, or floor length black skirt with black short sleeve/elbow or above top) but are not sure, feel free to send me a snapshot.  Please check out locals thrift stores as they often have dresses available at super low prices. Simple black ballet flat type shoes are the most comfortable and can be found inexpensively--Wal Mart has some for $5.87 that would work great!
Boys Uniforms-They will need simple black dress pants, long sleeve white dress shirt, all-black shoes and the ties will be checked out from me in September (they will check them back in in May).  The Tuxedo Wholesaler web Outlet has some pretty good deals on things for boys as well so you may check that out as well when the info is sent home Sept. 6.
**Loaner uniforms are available, please let me know if you will be needing one.
Thunder Blue National Anthem--We have been invited to sing for the Thunder Blue game on Sunday, November 5th at 2pm.  Students would need to be at the Cox Center by 12:50 for a sound check at 1PM.  More information on this later, we can take up to 34 students and their admission tickets are free.  Other family and friends can get tickets at a reduced price.
