    Saturday School – December 16th

    • Students will be allowed to make up one absence per session per class, thus expanding opportunities to pass for the semester.  Students will be required to attend one hour to make up one hour.
    • Students will be required to attend make-up session on Saturday morning beginning at 7:00am to 12:00pm
    • A five hour session will equal one six period day.
    • All sessions (no matter how many hours you are making up) will begin 7:00am.  Saturday School will be held in the Cafeteria Commons. Students who show up after 7:00am shall not be admitted.
    • Please enter from south concourse doors. No student will be admitted to Saturday School without visibly wearing their student ID.
    • Students will be required to work on academics.  A strict behavioral code (very similar to that of ISD) will be enforced.  No talking or texting.

    Semester Test Information:

    In an effort to provide an uninterrupted testing environment, we will be limiting the time frame from which a student can check-out during semester tests.   Once a student reports to their designated testing session and attendance has been taken, they will not be allowed to check out until the next passing period.    We will not allow students to complete a semester test and then disrupt the testing environment by leaving class before the end of that testing session.   Should a student need to be checked out before the conclusion of the school day, that student can check with their grade level secretary during passing periods to verify if a parent/guardian has called in and a permit to leave campus slip is ready.   

    Secretaries will not be sending office aides into the classrooms during testing sessions.   Students if you know you will not be able to test on Tuesday &/or Wednesday, your parent or guardian should contact the respective grade level secretary, IN ADVANCE, so they can generate your permit to leave campus.   This permit will be waiting for you to pick up in the front office as you prepare to leave the building.   You will not be given your permission slip in ADVANCE of the testing session.    

    If a student does not take their semester test on the designated dates, the student must make arrangements with their teachers to complete their tests on Tuesday January 2nd 

     

    Semester Test Schedule:

    Tuesday Dec. 19th   - 1, 3, 5 hours

    Wednesday Dec. 20th - 2, 4, 6 hours

    Bell schedule for semester tests:

    8:20-10:10           Test session I

    10:20-12:10         Test session 2

    12:10-1:20                 Lunch

    1:20-3:11             Test session 3

     

    The Southmoore, Southridge and Highland West vocal music departments present, “Here We Come A-Caroling” on Thursday, Dec. 14th @ 7:00 pm in the Southmoore Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are $5 at the door for adults and $3.00 for students with ID’s.

    Senior Banquet Video Pictures

    The Senior class is asking all Southmoore Seniors to bring three pictures for the Senior Banquet Video.  We need each Senior to submit a:

    • A baby / preschool picture
    • A youth / elementary picture
    • A current Senior picture.

    Pictures should be individual shots.  Pictures are due by Wednesday, December 13th

    Pictures may be brought as Prints, on a Flash Drive, or emailed to davidhanneman@mooreschools.com. All hard copy prints need to be put into an official Senior Banquet Video Envelope which may be picked up from the Senior Office or one of the Senior sponsors.  Hard copy prints will be returned after we have scanned them and made the video.

    Do you shop at Marcum’s? If so, give Southmoore a credit every time you shop.  When checking out, ask for a duplicate receipt and place it in the Southmoore mail slot. Marcum’s has provided a large mailbox bin for all the Moore Schools to collect receipts. They give back to the schools a percentage of each receipt.  Southmoore will use our credit for the Spring Campus Beautification project.

     

    Mark your calendar! The JOM Native American Senior Banquet will be on April 10, 2018 at 6:00 pm. The banquet will take place at Westmoore Community Church. Invitation will be mailed out to all MPS JOM seniors.

     

    Student Advocacy Counselor

    Resources and Support available: Mrs. Papera 735-4914

     

    Small Group Counseling is available to all students: Coping with Emotions, Stress & Anxiety, and Creating Confidence. These groups last one semester and students must have a parent consent to attend. Have your student visit with Mrs. Papera in S226 if they are interested in any of these support groups to learn coping skills and how to self-regulate emotions. 

     

    Food Pantry: Southmoore High School has a food pantry available for students who need a little extra assistance with food for the weekend. If your family needs this  connection please have your student visit with Mrs. Papera in S226. Moore also has a community Food Pantry that your family can be connected with.

     

    Peer Tutoring: On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday there is peer tutoring available during lunch time in the library. Sign up in S226, eat your lunch and show up in the library on one of these days with work to do. Tutor signs are present to locate the tutor. Students have the first 10-15 minutes of lunch to eat then show up for tutoring in the library.
