What we learn in Music!
 
We have a very specific set of music skills that we develop through each
grade beginning in 1st and going through 6th grade.  The scope & sequence
is designed to prepare students for appreciation of music as well as helping
them to develop skills in each of the Elements that can be found in music.
 
Kindergarten will explore steady beat, high-low, dynamics, rhythm patterns, singing and matching pitch, playing classroom instruments.
 
1st Graders will study AB Form; Rhythm including quarter note, eighth notes, and steady beat; Solfedge Pitches including So-Mi & La; Dynamics piano & forte, Tempos Largo & Presto.  Studies include Instruments of the Orchestra.
 
2nd Grade students will add to the previously learned concepts to include ABA form, Rhythms half note, whole note - Meters 2/4 and 4/4 (Common Time), Adagio & Vivace Tempos; Legato & Staccato, Pitch Do; Dynamics mezzo piano & mezzo forte.
 
3rd Grade Students will add: Rondo Form, Rhythm dotted half note;  Meter 3/4;  Pitch Re and the Pentatonic Scale; Andante, Moderato, & Allegro Tempos, Dynamics Crescendo-Decrescendo, Pianissimo & Fortissimo as well as begin studying specific instruments of the orchestra and a brief introduction to Symphonic music.
 
4th Grade Students study: Theme & Variations in Form, Rhythm eighth rest, syncopated rhtyhms; Accelerando and Ritardando and begin learning the notes of the Treble Staff as well as applying that knowledge to playing recorders.
 
5th Grade Students:  Learn in addition to previous studies minor pentatonic scales and true note names of the Treble Clef.  They are able to further their skills in playing recorder.
 
6th Grade students: Add 6/8 Meter and part singing as well as study Major and Minor Scales.  Sixth Grade add pitches BAGED and high C & D, F#, and B-flat to recorder playing.
