It seems like I have been teaching forever because I started teaching and tutoring students even when I was an elementary student. In the sixth grade I was tutoring students in math for my second grade teacher and reading to kindergarteners. You might say teaching is in my blood!
I graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, in 1979 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. My teaching experience started in a 5th/6th grade combination classroom when I returned to my native Colorado. I taught in Aurora, Colorado, for six years. My wife and I then went to Bukavu, Zaire, Africa, to teach missionary children for five years. We also spent one year learning Swahili.
We returned to the States in 1991 and taught for 17 years at a school for a children's home where we raised our two children. Our son Jonathan is married and works as a computer programmer in Broken Arrow. His wife Joy is a teacher also. Our daughter Angela is married and worked as a nurse until the children came. She and her husband SunMin, a doctor, have a son and two daughters. You can see pictures of these incredibly cute grandchildren upon request!
We moved to the Oklahoma City area in 2008 where we taught at a Christian school. I was blessed to start teaching in Moore nine years ago at Winding Creek and then at Oakridge. I am excited to be at Briarwood now! My wife is now a tutor for the the Indian Education Program in Moore at Fisher and Houchin.
I believe helping students to develop a strong character is one of the most important jobs I have. I love teaching and try to have as much fun at it as I can!
