Indian Education Programs
Title VII &
Title VII and Johnson O’Malley are federally funded programs designed to meet the unique needs of American Indian Students in our public school system. Our goals are to promote academic achievement, improve attendance, and graduation rates, and promote understanding of the American Indian culture.
Eligibility for Services
For a child to receive services in the Title VII Program, a parent must complete and sign a Student Eligibility Form (506). This program has no specification for blood quantum, but the child must be of Indian descent and meet criteria described on the 506 form to be eligible for the program.
To be eligible for services in the Johnson O’Malley Program, a student must be enrolled (or eligible for enrollment) with a tribe or be 1/4 total blood decree descendant of a tribal member of a federally recognized tribe and have documentation.
At the elementary level, there is an emphasis on early academic achievement. Indian Education tutors are provided at each site to work with eligible students. All elementary Indian Education students who are performing below grade level in reading or math are considered for placement in tutoring. Assessments are used to determine which students will be served according to most need. Diagnostic testing is used to prescribe individualized instruction and tutors work closely with classroom teachers to provide the support each student needs to become academically successful.
Additional services at the elementary level include:
Recognition for student achievement
Liaison for tribes and native students
Please feel free to call Title VII-JOM tutors at your child’s school.
They will be happy to answer any question or address concerns you may have.
