What is AR?
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that administers comprehension tests over books that students have read. The program allows teachers and students to track how much a student is reading on his/her reading level and to determine how well a student understands the book.
How do students meet a reading goal?
Each quarter, your child's reading teacher will instruct him or her to take a Star Reading test on the computer to determine an appropriate reading level. The teacher will input this data and the AR program will formulate the number of reading points a student should earn within the nine weeks' period. Students accumulate points as they take computer tests about the books they have read and answer questions correctly. They also receive a comprehension grade which should average out to an 85% or above at the end of the nine weeks. At the end of the nine week period, students who have reached their point goal total AND scored an 85% or above average on their AR comprehension quizzes will get a prize during the Star Shine assembly. It is important that the average reading level of the books that a student has read are based on the Star Reading results for that period.Reading is an Adventure!END OF THE YEAR MEDALS:4 Nine Weeks - Gold3 Nine Weeks - Silver2 Nine Weeks - Bronze1 Nine Weeks - CertificateClick here to find the book level of your books at home or the books you have checked out from the public library!
