Facebook Information

  • Parents:

Please be aware of your student’s internet activity including, but not limited to, Facebook.  To avoid unwanted comments or messages, encourage your students to reject friend requests from strangers. By adjusting profile privacy settings, students can prevent strangers from viewing their profile information or pictures, and posting comments. To limit profile visibility to friends only, please do the following:

From the Facebook homepage, click “Account” at the top right corner. Under “Account,” click “Privacy Settings.” This will open a new window. Under “Sharing on Facebook,” click “Friends Only” on the left side of the screen. Click “Apply These Settings,” the blue button at the bottom of this section. Individual categories can also be customized by clicking the “Custom” feature.

To block unwanted users from sending messages or accessing your student’s profile page, please do the following:

From the Facebook homepage, click “Account” at the top right corner.  Under “Account,” click “Privacy Settings.”  This will open a new window.  On the bottom of the screen in the middle of the page, click “Edit your lists” under the “Block Lists” category.  This will open a new window that will allow you to enter the name or email of the person you wish to block.
