The Highland East Academic Team competes in quiz bowl competition by answering questions dealing with all topics of human knowledge, including: math, science, social studies, literature, fine arts, sports, and general trivia. Academic team members benefit from studying a broad range of academic subjects, increasing memorization and study skills, learning to work in teams in a cooperative and competitive arena.
A quiz bowl competition is typically played with a lockout buzzer system between two teams of four players each. A moderator reads questions to the teams, whose players try to be the first buzz in with a correct answer. If correct, they score points for their team. The team with the most points at the end of the game, wins.
