Southmoore High School's Academic and Scholastic Teams have established a tradition of excellence in our first 4 years.  We are looking forward to another successful year in the 2012/2013 school year.

The Academic Team competitions involve both knowledge and speed.  Questions are posed and the first person to buzz in is given the opportunity to answer.  If they answer incorrectly, the opposing team is given a chance to answer the question.  After a round of 20 questions the teams each complete a lightening round in which they attempt to answer as many questions as possible in just 60 seconds.  These competitions are fast-paced and spirited.  To prepare for these competitions, the academic team practices for 1 hour after school 2 days a week.  Competitions are held after school or on Saturdays.
The Scholastic Team competitions take place during Spring semester.  Several universities host these events in which students take tests in various subjects.  Students must be recommended by their teachers in order to compete.  The tests cover a wide range of subjects such as history, art, math, science, literature, computer literacy and foreign languages, to name a few.  Individual students can win medals or certificates and the team as a whole can win trophies.  These events are excellent opportunities for students to visit campuses and learn more about the programs offered at these universities.  In the past we have competed at Cameron University in Lawton, USAO in Chickasha, ECU in Ada and SWOSU in Weatherford.

SCHOLASTIC TEAM RETURNS TO ECU
Bad weather has prevented our team from competing at the scholastic meet in Ada for the last two years.  It almost kept us out of the competition again this year, but the snow held off until we were safely back at SHS.  The team finished strong with 2 first place finishes, 5 second place finishes and 8 third place finishes.

SOUTHMOORE HIGH SCHOOL
COMPETES AT SWOSU
Our scholastic team did a fantastic job once again at the scholastic meet at SWOSU in Weatherford on March 28th.  The team took first place in Fine Arts, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences to finish 2nd overall.  SHS accumulated 12 first place finishes, 18 second place finishes and 11 third place finishes in individual subject exams.  Congratulations to each and every member of the team.  To view individual results, go to www.swosu.edu/admissions and click on the SWOSU SWIM link in the lower right hand corner.

USAO Interscholastic Meet
The annual chalk art festival had to be cancelled due to rain, but that did not dampen the spirits of the SHS Scholastic Team. Ronnie N. finished in 4th place in 4th year math.  Alex D. took 5th place in the Algebra II exam.  Congratulations Ronnie and Alex.
