PTSA needs your help! We have been asked to help with hospitality for the Scholarship assembly on Monday, May 8th. PTSA would like to provide food and drink items for our guests and speakers that afternoon. If you can donate any of the following, please email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. Please let us know what you would like to donate so we don’t get a lot of one item and none of any others. Donations need to be turned in to the office by 10am, Monday, May 8th.

Do you shop at Marcum’s? If so, give Southmoore a credit every time you shop. When checking out, ask for a duplicate receipt and place it in the Southmoore mail slot. Marcum’s has provided a large mailbox bin for all the Moore Schools to collect receipts. They give back to the schools a percentage of each receipt. Southmoore will use their credit for the Spring Campus Beautification project.
Awards Night will be Tuesday, May 9th at 7 PM. Letters have been sent home to those receiving awards.

According to school board policy a student cannot be absent more than ten (10) days of each semester. School activities, medical treatment, legal/court subpoena, religious holidays, or bereavement are exempt from the 10 day limit. Students should also take note of their tardies. According to policy - two tardies constitute an absence and will be counted in conjunction with the attendance policy. Southmoore will provide only ONE opportunity for you to recover an absence. On Saturday May 13th students will be allowed to serve one hour for each class they are over the allotted limit. This means if a student has 11 unexcused absences, in any hour, that student could serve one hour on Saturday May 13th, to reduce their total to 10 absences. Students exceeding 11 may not receive credit for the first semester and consequently not need to appear on Saturday May 13th. Students needing to attend Saturday school should enter from the South Concourse and be present before 7:00am with their school Identification. Students attempting to enter the building after 7:00am and/or without their student identification run the risk of not being admitted. Questions should be presented to your grade level administrator or attendance secretary in advance. SHOULD YOUR CONTINUED ABSENCES BE UNVERIFIED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN YOU MAY RECEIVE A TRUANCY CITATION (est. $307).

Southmoore Computer Department is in need of old SMART phones. We are looking to create a classroom set of 3-D Virtual/Augmented Reality Goggles. Donations can be dropped off to Mrs. Meget in room N115 or given to any computer teacher.

Now accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year for NASA officers! Please come by Mrs. Jackson’s room N211 to pick up an application. Interviews will take place the week of May 1-5. NASA (Native American Student Association) club focuses on Native American culture awareness and is open to any 9th-12th grade Southmoore student. NASA participates in cultural activities, community service, and SHS functions throughout the school year.
ATTENTION Seniors: Please stop by the library and show us your college acceptance letter (or a picture of it on your phone) and we will make you a banner for the “College-Bound SaberCats” wall. We’ll make a banner for every acceptance letter you receive.
PROGRESS REPORT CHANGES-
Parents and Students, due to the cost of printing Progress Reports, and in an effort to save money and time in the classroom, we are only going to be printing select dates this year. The dates are listed below when Progress Reports will be POSTED on the Portal.

Transcripts are available in the registrar’s office. You may purchase them or have them submitted electronically to Oklahoma Colleges. They are a legal document and do require you to sign a release. If you are applying for an out of state college, you must purchase a hard copy ($.25 each). We cannot submit an electronic copy to out of state schools. Even if you sign a release at that school and they tell you they will request one, you must still come to the Registrar’s office and sign up.

Senior Class 2017Informational Letter
As the 2017 graduating class from Southmoore High School, you have a great amount of responsibility and honor. Not only will you be participating in “once-in-a-lifetime” activities, but you will also be building upon the standard by which all future Senior Classes will be measured. There will be several Senior activities that will make memories to last your lifetime. We want you to participate in as many activities as you can. You have worked many years for this moment, so please remember to use good judgment at all times. Any inappropriate behavior could jeopardize you getting to graduate. We hope that all Seniors will do their part to continue the finest traditions as the leaders of Southmoore SaberCats.
Please be aware that inappropriate dress at any of the activities will result in you not being allowed to participate in that activity and NO refunds will be given. Senior dress at all senior events must comply with all dress codes and school rules as set forth in the Student Handbook as well as this handout. If you question your attire for an upcoming event, you should ask a principal or a Senior Class Sponsor before the event takes place.

All Senior activities are official school activities. Any student in violation of law or school policy can be suspended and/or turned over to the police, may face possible legal charges, and will have his/her diploma held pending disciplinary action. Violations include, but are not limited to: alcohol, drugs, fireworks, etc. Students who attempt to disrupt graduation will have their diplomas held and be subject to school discipline. As stated in your student handbook, no student lacking more than one unit of credit will be allowed to go through commencement exercises.
Tickets for all Senior activities require a cash purchase. Checks will not be accepted. All deadlines will be strictly followed. A photo ID is required for admission into the Senior activities and Prom.

This is an assembly honoring those students who have received scholarships. All students receiving scholarships should attend as well as their parents and friends who would like to honor them. It is important that you inform your counselor if you have received a scholarship and plan to attend.

Baccalaureate is an optional service asking for blessings upon our graduating seniors. It is conducted by the Moore Ministerial Alliance. You wear your graduation gown for Baccalaureate. You do not wear the cap or other regalia. Gentlemen are required to wear a dress shirt, dress pants and a tie. Ladies are required to wear a dress and the white collar provided with their gown. All students must wear dress shoes. No backless shoes will be allowed.
GRADUATION PRACTICES ARE REQUIRED.
SEATS WILL BE ASSIGNED FOR GRADUATION AT PRACTICE. You must attend the practices if you plan to participate in the commencement ceremonies. Both Baccalaureate and Graduation are optional, but if you choose to participate, you must attend the practices. Any exceptions require administrative approval.

Seniors are to be in place no later than 8:15 AM with their cap and gown.
Name Announcement - A piece of paper will be provided at graduation for you to write your name on. Write your name the way you would like it pronounced as you cross the stage to receive your diploma cover. Inappropriate names or language on your name card will result in you receiving the diploma cover without your name having been read. Remember, you have worked many years for this moment. Do not do anything to embarrass your family or jeopardize this public recognition of your effort.
Dress - Gentlemen are required to wear a dress shirt, dress pants and a tie. Ladies are required to wear a dress. All students must wear dress shoes. No sandals, flip-flops, backless shoes or tennis shoes will be allowed. Ladies must have the white collar provided with the gown attached to the gown before graduation in order to participate. You are to wear the cap that goes with the gown. The tassel should be worn on the right side of the cap. No other items may be attached to the cap. You may want to bring bobby pins to secure your cap. Only school approved regalia may be worn on the gown. Students failing to meet dress code will not be allowed to participate.
Diplomas & Grade Pick-Up
Diplomas and Report Cards will be available at Southmoore beginning on TBA. Only the Senior or his/her parents may pick up the diploma. All fines, charges, and obligations must have been paid before the diploma will be awarded.
Seniors may sign up for a transcript when they pick up their diploma (transcripts must be pre-paid @ 25 cents per copy). Transcripts may be picked up starting the TBA.

From the Counseling Center:
Small Group Counseling is available for all students 9th -12th grade. Coping with Emotions, Managing Stress & Anxiety, Creating Confidence, and Grief. Contact Mrs. Katherine Papera or your student’s individual counselor if you have any questions or would like a consent form.
Peer Tutoring available on Tuesday and Thursday’s in the library. Students eat lunch for the first 15 minutes then come to the library for help. Students need to sign up in the counseling center before they show up. Students bring the work they need help with on the day of tutoring. Tutoring can be set up for additional days if needed. Contact Mrs. Katherine Papera for more details.
A Food Pantry at SHS is available to assist students who need additional assistance meeting nutritional needs over the weekend.
