We are excited to share that Moore Public Schools and the MPS Foundation annual philanthropic initiative, “Moore Love,” will be throughout the entire month of February and that this year we will raise funds for three very important causes.
The Superintendent’s Leadership Academy, comprised of Leadership class students from Moore, Westmoore and Southmoore high schools, are leading the charge and working with their feeder junior high and elementary schools to collaborate on fundraising. Here is information about each of the three causes:
- Mary Abbott Children’s House: is a safe place for children to tell their stories regarding sexual and physical abuse and neglect, as well as children who are a witness to crime and in drug endangered situations. Abbott House provides forensic interviews, medical assessments, advocacy, and education around the signs of abuse and how to report suspected abuse. For more information, visit webpage: www.abbott-house.org
- Sparrow Project: (of Moore, OK), creates a safe environment for young adults with intellectual disabilities that promote happy and fulfilled lives through job skills, life skills, creative interests and social activities. For more information, visit Facebook page: @thesparrowproject
- Regional Foodbank: MPS works with the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank to provide food items in backpacks for approximately 650 of our students. These students do not have food to sustain them during the weekend and this program helps fulfill this need. For more information, visit webpage: www.regionalfoodbank.org
Our plan is to have a friendly, intra-district challenge. Our three high school leadership students will work directly with their feeder junior high and elementary schools’ leadership students. At the end of February, based on most funds raised, a champion will be determined and they will receive the trophy and bragging rights! Will it be the Lion Pride, Jaguar Pride or SaberCat Pride? The fundraisers will be at every school site on Fridays during February – 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. All of the money raised will go toward the three causes.
