Dear Moore Public Schools Family:

Yesterday and today, our collective hearts were broken once again as the first of seven funerals were held and we buried two beautiful children, Nicolas McCabe and Emily Conatzer. Words are insufficient to express my sorrow at their loss.

We also witnessed again and again the kindness our extended school family and our community. We are so grateful for your prayers, volunteer assistance and donations. You are showing the world the warmth and heart I have come to cherish as superintendent and as a community member.

I am so very proud of our employees, so many of whom risked their own lives to shelter and protect the precious children and young people in our care. These unsung heroes deserve our thanks and our praise, and I know you join with me in expressing my gratitude.

We also recognize that our students, parents, community members and employees have many questions about our next steps as a school system. We are developing and putting into place a variety of contingency plans as quickly as possible.

Please continue to check our website and Facebook page for updates. We have posted new information regarding student grades, summer school, employee paychecks, funeral arrangements and donations. Information also will be shared via local news media outlets.

Again, thank you for keeping all of us, especially the families of our victims, in your thoughts and prayers. I’d also like to thank the volunteers and offers of assistance that are pouring in from across the nation. Thank you for all that you are doing, and will do, in the days and weeks to come.

Sincerely,
Susan “Susie” Pierce
Superintendent
