Welcome to Fourth Grade
Dear Parents and Students,
We would like to welcome you to fourth grade at Northmoor Elementary! We are looking forward to an exciting and educational school year working with you and your child.
We have set high goals and expectations for the 2012-2013 school year and hope by working together, that we can achieve our goals. If, at any time during the school year, you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by email at
amandadalbow@mooreschools.com
jennyford@mooreschools.com
or by phone during our planning period from 10:35-11:20 at 735-4420. The following information is just a brief summary of expectations and procedures.
Daily Planners
You will need to purchase an assignment planner in the office, before or after school for your child. The planner will be utilized in classes daily to record daily assignments and to monitor daily behavior. Unfinished assignments will be circled and are to be completed for homework. Finished assignments will be initialed by your child’s subject teacher. This is so when the student returns home, you will know exactly what homework your child may have. It is your child’s responsibility to have you sign their daily planner each night affirming completion. Please monitor and discuss your child’s behavior according to their daily behavior chart that will be found attached in the planner. The planner is an excellent communication tool between home and school.
Thursday Folders
Every Thursday your child will bring a folder home containing important information, and graded assignments. This will keep you, the parents, aware of your child’s progress at school. Enclosed in each Thursday Folder will be an assignment report. Each assignment listed on this report was completed for a grade in the grade book and sent home that Thursday. Please check the report to the enclosed graded papers to ensure all assignments are being completed and turned in by your child. Assignment reports are to be signed by the parent and returned with the Thursday folder the following Friday. Please check for any daily assignments, turned in on time, with a grade of 69% or below. These daily assignments can be redone for an averaged grade. Please make sure all redo papers are completed on a piece of notebook paper and attached to the original assignment. Tests may not be redone. Please check and sign Thursday folders and assignment reports each week to monitor your child’s academic growth and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Homework/Daily Assignments
All homework is due the day after the assignment is given. Late assignments will not be accepted. All late papers will receive a 50%. All no name papers will result in a 50% as well. All test scores will be recorded with the grade earned by the student. All students are allowed one day for each day they were absent to make up absent work. All absent work will be found on an absent assignment sheet when the child returns to school. Please sign the absent assignment sheet and return to school with your child with all missing work. Any assignment not turned in will result in a 50%. Due to frequent schedule changes, we will be unable to give out any absent work in advance. The student can collect all absent work upon his or her return to school. Again, one day will be given for every day absent to make up all work.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Students are required to read to meet individualized goals. Books that students choose to read must be within their reading level and worth more than one point unless approved by a teacher.
Fourth Grade Behavior Expectations
v We will use good manners at all times.
v We will raise our hand and wait to be called on if we would like to share.
v We will turn our voices off when we hear a speaker.
v We will ask questions that deal with the topic.
v We will encourage other students.
v We will not talk in the halls.
v We do not have the right to interfere with the learning and well-being of others.
v We will respect all other students and adults.
Classroom Rewards
Students that exhibit positive behavior will receive such rewards as raffle tickets, class points, extra privileges, etc.
Consequences
Life is full of choices. Choose them carefully.
If I can’t discipline myself, others will have to.
Fourth grade utilizes a behavior book as a reinforcement tool.
Ø A verbal warning will be given for inappropriate behavior.
Ø One mark will be recorded in the discipline book for continued inappropriate behavior.
Ø A discipline note will be sent home after a student has three marks within a week. Discipline notes are to be signed by both the parent and the student and returned the morning of the next school day.
Ø The first discipline note is a warning.
Ø The second discipline note will result in a 30 minute after school detention. It will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to make transportation arrangements for students departing school grounds after a detention.
Ø Each note after the second note will result in after school detention.
Ø Students will be placed in ISR (In School Restriction) after three detentions within one semester. Students will be responsible for work assigned while serving ISR.
Ø Further inappropriate behavior will be dealt with by the principal.
Once again, please feel free to contact us during our planning time with any questions or concerns. We are here for the best interest of our students and want this year to be as successful as possible. We can not achieve this goal alone and need your support throughout the year. We believe that your child receives the best education when parents and teachers work as a team.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dalbow and Ms. Ford
