May 25, 2013

Dear Moore Public Schools Family:

As the sun rises each day I feel stronger and more hopeful about our recovery. Driving to graduation this morning, I passed many homes and businesses witnessing the volunteers from near and far combing through our neighbors’ homes and our campuses in an effort to save memories and recapture a sense of normalcy.

Standing at graduation my heart swelled, seeing all of our Moore families standing shoulder to shoulder, celebrating each and every student’s accomplishments. The spirit of our young people and the resilience of our staff continue to inspire me daily.

As I stated to our 1400 graduates today, we’ve suffered a terrible loss. But we are here to celebrate your accomplishments, success and dreams – you renew our faith, our hope and our dreams.

In stark contrast, today we also laid to rest two precious children alongside their immediate family in a final, heartbreaking farewell.  The families of nine-year-olds Emily Conatzer and Christopher Legg will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

In an effort to keep everyone more informed, we are distributing a newsletter to our parents and community filled with announcements, resources and information. Look for or seek out “Moore is OK” for the latest updates about our district

Tomorrow, I will represent Moore Public Schools alongside our President, Governor and other state and national officials as we grieve together the loss of life. Know that my soul will be filled to the core with their memory and the thoughts of our heroic teachers and staff members who placed their own lives before others, miraculously saving many.

But the world should know Moore is OK. We are strong; we are resilient; we will fight our way back.

We are all Moore Public Schools and there is no place like home.

Sincerely,

Susan “Susie” Pierce

Superintendent
