   Superintendent's Message

June 10, 2013

Dear Moore Public Schools Family:

We have heard from people across the country who have sent in monetary donations of all sizes, messages of hope and strength, and offers to travel many miles to come and help in person.  Moore is a strong community and we will rebuild no matter what, but the love and support we have received from across our state and our country has lifted us up immeasurably.  Even through this tragedy, we know we are blessed.

We are actively working to ensure that all of our sites will be up and running for the upcoming school year.  Countless employees and volunteers are working tirelessly to get us back to business as usual.  It will be a long road but never forget, Moore is OK.

Susan "Susie" Pierce

Moore Public Schools Superintendent

Voyaging Individual Students Through Academics
SERVING NON TRADITIONAL STUDENT NEEDS

Welcome to our Web site. Moore Public Schools has been on the cutting edge of alternative education innovation and development since 1977. VISTA Academies have a history of strong administrative and financial support. The district demonstrates commitment to the Academies by designing alternative opportunities to meet the ever-changing needs of at risk students. The five Academies include: VISTA 6th grade, VISTA 7th & 8th grades, VISTA MAST (Moore Alternative School and Treatment Program), VISTA High School, and the Moore Alternative Night School.

Although the five Academies differ in design, targeted population, and areas of emphasis, the goals and expectations are similar: reducing the dropout rate, retrieving dropouts to empower them to get back on track to graduate, reducing chronic absenteeism, raising individual grade point averages, increasing the number of courses passed per semester per student, improving behavior and attitude toward school, raising standardized test scores, and increasing the area graduation rate.

Each Academy has a comprehensive and systematic intake and screening process to determine the appropriateness of student placement. A major part of the process is the involvement and commitment by the parent/guardian throughout the students' tenure in the program. This commitment may include contracts between the student, parent, and the staff regarding attendance, productivity, and behavior. The intake and assessment committee is comprised of the student, parent/guardian; sending school teachers, counselor, administrators; receiving alternative education teachers, counselor, administrators; and juvenile justice representative, if applicable.

Numerous community and agency representatives throughout the area are engaged individually and collectively in the social, educational, financial, and personal needs of the students.

Serving non-traditional student needs is the focus of the alternative education programs of the Moore Public Schools. It is our goal to meet the educational needs of our students. We encourage you to browse our web site and contact the administrator of that particular Academy if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Earl C. Capps
