What are the behavior expectations for the class?

Work the Puzzle of Success:  Be...

    • PRESENT - Be here!  It is very difficult to make up missed class time.
    • PROMPT - Be on time!  Class starts when the bell rings.
    • PREPARED - Bring your supplies to class.  (This includes homework!)
    • POSITIVE- A good attitude will make the difference in everything you do!
    • POLITE- Be respectful!  Treat others the way you want to be treated.

This Puzzle of Success, as well as other procedures and expectations, are given to the student at the beginning of each semester to be signed by the student and parent or guardian.  At the end of the semester, this expectations and procedures sheet is worth 5 bonus points if presented at the time of the semester exam.

Exceptional behavior can be rewarded with a HOMEWORK PASS.  However, any behavior contrary to the behaviors expected for the Puzzle of Success can have consequences of student/teacher conference, parent contact and/or before/after school detention.

    What is the tardy policy?

If the student is not present when the tardy bell rings, they are marked as tardy unless they have a note excusing the tardy.  The first tardy will receive a warning.  Two tardies equal one unexcused absence  If tardies become excessive, detentions may be assigned.

    How is the grade calculated?

I grade on total points.  Daily work is 50%; assessments are 40%; the semester test is worth 10%.

What should be done about work missed if absent?

It is the student's responsibility to make up assignments missed if they are absent.  The student needs to check the agenda and ask for needed worksheets.  The student is given the number of days absent plus one day to make up the work.

Hall passes are given ONLY when absolutely necessary.  It is very important that students are in class during class time.

Is credit given for papers turned in without a name?

Writing your name on your paper should be your first step on all assignments.  It is difficult to give credit without a name.  I will offer the opportunity to claim these papers, however, "No Name" papers will receive a 3-point deduction.

Extra credit may be offered at various times throughout the year.  It will be limited to 5% of total points per semester.  Extra credit assignments will be posted in class.  The SNoW Board is also an ongoing extra credit opportunity for the entire school year.  More information can be found on the Extra Credit page.

What is an assignment sheet packet?

Student organization is a key factor for class success.  Therefore, students are given grades based on organization and responsibility.  All graded assignments and class notes are kept by each student on an Assignment Sheet that is to be kept in their two pocket folder.  The possible points and the student's earned points are recorded on this sheet for each assignment.  At the end of every unit, the assignment sheet and all listed assignments are stapled together to create an assignment sheet packet.  The packet is worth 2 points for each listed assignment.  The packet is then sent home with the student for a required parent or guardian signature, worth an additional 5 points.  If the packet is not turned in, the packet grade is recorded as a "0".

Are students required to keep a class agenda?

Every Monday, students are required to fill in their school agenda for the week from the agenda board in the classroom.  The daily agenda and homework information is updated monthly and can also be found on this website.  There will be random agenda check grades taken throughout the school year.
