Hello and Welcome to Ms. Driscoll's Site
This is going to be a great year.
I'm teaching 7th grade reading and 8th grade reading. I love reading so my biggest hope for this year is to pass that love of reading on to my students. The 8th graders will be reading out of the Red Bridges to Reading book. We will also be reading "The Outsiders", "Diary of Anne Frank", "The Giver", and we wil decide as a class what to read for our fourth book. Because I only have one class set of all the books we are reading, there will be no homework. I do encourage that the kids read outside of class as much as possible. The 7th graders will be reading out of the Yellow Bridges to Reading book. We will also be reading "Freak the Mighty", "Out of My Mind", and "The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas."Students will also do a daily journal and bell work at the beginning of each class. The journal is a brief writing prompt that students will be asked to write at least 3 to 5 sentences aabout the book that they are reading during quiet reading of the book of their choice. A weekly averaged grade will be given for journals and bell work.Daily work which will be graded daily as well. Daily work is the work that is associated to the reading text that we are currently working on, it covers vocabulary, comprehension, and writing activities tying reading to their every day lives.Test will be given at the end of each unit that we complete, as well as 9 week test. Test grades are weighted heavier than the other two grades.I do give a lot of grades in my class. I want my kids to succeed and grading daily allows me to see how my students are doing and what help they may need. Students may come to me with questions about their grades at any time.I hope to make this a great year for my students in Reading Class. My goal is to get them to improve their reading skills and also to make it more enjoyable for them.If you have any concerns, comments, criticisms, or ideas please don't hesitate to email me or call me during my planning hour which is sixth hour.
