- Music Block covers 7 units in the semester. Students will need a pocket/brad folder by the second week of class. A signature sheet with guidelines and course description goes home on the first day.
Unit One is a notation and terminology introduction or review.
Unit Two is voice production and mechanics of the voice.
Unit Three is on playing the dulcimer.
Unit Four employs keyboard improvisation with a midi sequence on the electric keyboard.
Unit Five provides the students with an exercise in composing their own song for the dulcimer. They will also learn about chord structure and progressions, and how to fit a melody to chords.Unit Five introduces music students to MIDI to allow them to hear their compositions on a choice of hundreds of instruments.
Unit Seven comprises performing compositions on the dulcimer or in MIDI format, for the class.
The brad/pocket folder will ultimately contain a points list, approximately 15 pages of notes, the signature sheet, 6 songs on manuscript (staff) paper, and the final composition.
