Parent/Teacher Communication

  • Staying informed of your child's academic progress is very important to your child's success.  We have many ways to communicate with you about your child.  Below are ways for you to keep up to date on what's going on in 6th grde and see how your child is doing academically and behaviorally.

Class Dojo - This is the main avenue we use to communicate with parents.  We post class messages about upcoming events, class assignments, etc.  We also use Class Dojo for behavior.  We do not award points in 6th grade.  Points are deducted when a student in not following procedures.  Ask your child's teacher how to sign up.

Agenda - Students are required to copy the days assignments into their Agendas daily.  Assignments that are due the next day will be marked with a "Y". Students should place these assignments in their homework folder at the end of class whether finished or not.  If the assignment was not finised in class it is homework.

Thursday Folders - Thursday Folders will go home every Thursday that we are in school.  The Thursday folder will have graded papers and could have other information about what is going on at South Lake.  If it's Thursday, you should expect to see the folder.

Peachjar Flyers -Most school wide information will be sent through Peachjar as electronic flyers in lieu of sending a hard copy home.  Peachjar also will have information from community groups and organizations that sponser activities of an education/enrichment nature for studentds.  These e-flyers are sent eletroncially so it is important that your email address is updated.

Email - Feel free to email any of the 6th grade teachers about questions you may have.  Email is the quickest way for us to get back to you, as we are required to check our email throughout the day.  Click on the teacher name below to email.

    Brad Hurley - Social Studies

    Dacia Smith - Math

Jamie Mitchell - Reading & Language

    Tara Thompson - Science

Parent Portal - Bring your drivers license to the office and ask fora parent portal password.  Once you have signed up, you can view your child's "in progress" grade as soon as the grade is unputted.  This is an excellent tool to keep up with your child's grades.  Parent Portal is also available as an app for I-phones and Androids.  Click here to go to Parent Portal info/support.

Progress Reports - Progress Reports go home half way between each 9 weeks.  Grades on a Progress Report are not final and are a way for you to check to be sure your child is on track.  If you see any low grades on your child's Progress Report, they have the rest of the 9 weeks to bring their grade up.  Once the final Report Card comes out, the grades are final.  Therefore, the Progress Report is a line of communication for us to let you know if your child needs improvement.
