All About Mrs. Lockhart

Welcome to my page. If you will be one of my students, welcome to my class! I know we will have a fantastic year together. The 2020-21 school year is my 8th year of teaching. I started my educational career at Wayland Bonds Elementary as a Special Education Paraprofessional. I then went to the University of Oklahoma and completed my Masters of Special Education. My first two years of teaching were at Brink Junior High, and then I was one of the original teachers during the inaugural year of Southridge Junior High. I am proud to be a Southridge Leopard, and member of the Southmoore High School feeder schools.

As the Special Education Department Chair I am available to help with concerns involving any special education student at Southridge Junior High. We have a fantastic team who truly prioritize the needs of our students. It is our desire that all of our students thrive and feel valued.

In my class, I have many things planned for this school year. We will use the Unique Learning Curriculum for English and math instruction, and Edmark for reading instruction. All students will receive individual plans to learn and progress at their own level and pace. We will also read several novels together to improve our listening comprehension skills. I like to choose novels based on the current season/holiday so we can include fun activities and projects. We will go to Mrs. Womack's class for social studies, and Ms. Davis' class for science. Plan for many hands-on activities such as science experiments and cooking classes. Each student will choose the elective class of their choice to attend while being supported by our class staff.

Some things may be a little different because of social distancing protocols, but as allowed, we will have several job skills activities we do around the building such as: sorting mail, shredding for teachers, morning coffee cart, and monthly lunches for school staff as a fundraiser for Special Olympics. Speaking of Special Olympics, if we are able, we will participate in the spring and summer games. These happen in April in Norman, and May in Stillwater. More information will be provided throughout the year.

I am looking forward to an incredible year!!
