Mr. Billy J. Elles

Mr. Elles is in his sixth year at Westmoore High School and in his eighth year in service to public education. Prior to Westmoore, Mr. Elles taught for two years at Muldrow High School where he earned honors as the High School and District Teacher of the Year in 2013 and won two state championships with his speech/debate team. Mr. Elles graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Oklahoma in the Spring of 2013 earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Education degree. In college, Elles served on the Leaders of Tomorrow leadership council advised by Jaguar Alumni, Dr. Jarrett Jobe. Mr. Elles maintains strong connections to his Alma Mater and is currently serving as a member of the Theatre/Communication Education Advisory Board at UCO. Recently, Mr. Elles was named the OSTCA Outstanding Young Coach for the State of Oklahoma for the 2016-2017 school year and coached his Westmoore team to a school record earning State Runner-Up title in Speech & Debate that same year. During the 2017-2018 campaign, Westmoore HS won it's first STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and continued to break school records. The following year, the team repeated their title as 6A State Champions and again in 2021 and 2022. The program continued to make progress in areas of  community, competition, service, and leadership.Westmoore earned honors at the NSDA National tournament in 2019 and then again in 2020, as a "School of Excellence in Speech" ; an award honoring the Top20 schools in the United States. Under his direction, 14 students have reached the final rounds of the NSDA/NIETOC/3P national tournaments in 9 separate events and several have reached outrounds at all three, including 8 semifinalists. Elles has coached multiple students to finals in National Circuit Tournaments including finalists and semifinalists at: The Glenbrooks, UT Austin, Denver East Mile High, Grapevine Classic, and various others. In 2021, Elles was honored at the Norman North Tournament with the Jimbo Ryan Coaching Award. In March of that same year, Elles would be named the 2021 West OK Coach of the Year and was honored with the Dr. Charlene Burton Coaching Award. He is also the Feb 2022 KOCO5 News Teacher of the Month. He believes in the words of Youth Advocate, Josh Shipp, "every student is one caring adult away from success."
