• Each student MUST read for at least 20 minutes daily!  Pre-AP students must read a book from each genre of literature by the end of the year.  It is highly recommended that students choose books from the Sequoyah reading list in order to broaden their perspectives.  The list of recommended books is below.  In addition, each student must log the number of pages he/she reads nightly for a bi-weekly grade.  The reading log is also attached.  The student has a choice to either answer two of the questions provided on a nightly basis, or they can make two predictions or observations about what they are reading.  The questions I have provided are a guide, and they are meant to be used continually while reading a book.   For every reading goal met, the student will receive an incentive from me to encourage them to read more.  Reading broadens horizons and vocabulary, and I hope to encourage your child to become an individual who loves literature.  I appreciate your assistance in achieving this goal!  Each student can receive extra credit for identifying 10 words they did not recognize from the book they are reading, and for defining these words.  At the end of each semester, the student who has read the most books and the class that has read the most books are rewarded.  I love a healthy competition that also motivates learning!
