Don't forget!!  You must keep practicing those reading skills!

    Summer Reading Assignment:

Every SJH 7th AND 8th grader must complete AT LEAST one of the books listed below.

(The books are from the 2019 Intermediate Sequoyah List.)

    • The Benefits of Being An Octopus by Ann Braden
    • Refugee by Alan Gratz
    • Sweep: The Story of a Girl and Her Monster by Jonathan Auxier
    • Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham
    • After The Shot Drops by Randy Ribay

Any 7th or 8th grader enrolled in Honors Language Arts will need to read one book from the list, as well as a second book of his/her choice. (The second book should be similar in length and reading level; it may or may not be from this same list.) Students must be able to compare/contrast how the protagonist from each novel grows as a person and gains a new awareness through some tough lessons in his/her life; students will also be expected to identify literary elements seen throughout both plots.

Students must finish reading the chosen novels BEFORE the first day of school--August 13, 2020. Students should be prepared to discuss the story and complete a timed writing or any other project/assignment during the first few weeks of school. English and reading teachers will assign due dates when assignments are given.
