About Mrs. Ragsdale:
I obtained my degree in Broadcast Communications and Marketing from Evangel University in December, 1991. It wasn’t until many years down the road that I realized I wanted to be teaching in the classroom full-time. I achieved this by taking advantage of the Alternative Certification program the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) offers to certify college graduates who have a degree that can translate over into a subject in our teaching curriculum.
Upon certification in Journalism, I decided there might be other subjects I would like to become certified in, as well. Within the year I became certified to teach in four areas: Journalism (6-12), English-Language Arts (6-12), Business (6-12), and Vocal Music Education (k-12).
After teaching English I, Pre-AP English I, English II, and Pre-AP English II here at Westmoore for six years, I was asked in 2018 to offer another fine arts elective for our students in the form of teaching Music Appreciation. Upon study of the OK and Moore Schools standards, I developed a curriculum last year to make learning music both engaging and relevant for teens today. I am now 80% music teacher and 20% English. I love both subjects and the material we cover!
My passion is educating students to be the best THEY can be, whether inside or outside the classroom, in leadership, and community service and awareness. I love my students, and I love what I do! A few of my favorite things: family, music, singing, travel, Starbucks, movies with the family, and reading! We especially love the beach and Disney – two of our favorite places to be together!
My favorite quote: “I am only one, but I am one; I cannot do everything, but I can do something; what I can do, I ought to do; and what I ought to do, with God’s help, I will do.” – Helen Keller
