August 2, 2019
Dear Southridge Students and Parents,
I hope you and your family have had a great summer, and you are excited about the upcoming school year. Below is important information to prepare for the start of school.
Our L.E.A.P. Event for all incoming 7th graders will be held Friday, August 9th from 9:00 a.m. until noon, L.E.A.P. stands for Leopards Experiencing Awesome Possibilities. This session is designed for students only, and the students need to stay the entire session. There will be 8th grade students and faculty members working with the 7th grade students as they participate in fun and informative activities designed to help them make the "LEAP' into junior high. Parents, please drop your student off at the front of the school, and pick them up promptly at noon.
7th grade Orientation for all incoming 7th grade students and parents will be held Tuesday, August 13th at 6:30 p.m. The evening will begin promptly at 6:30 with a brief presentation in the new gym. Once students and parents are released, you will turn in your proof of residence (gas, water, electric, or mortgage/lease agreement from June 2019 or later) and updated shot records. Passport Health will be on hand to administer the TDAP if needed. Remember, your child will not be allowed to attend class without proof of the TDAP immunization, as required by Oklahoma State Law. Once these two requirements are completed, students will receive their class schedules and student ID. After receiving your schedule, ID, and purchasing your agenda, you will have the opportunity to locate your classes and assigned locker. In addition, you may decorate/prepare your locker if you wish to do so, as well as purchase t-shirts and PTSA memberships.
For our 8th grade students, schedules will be accessible on Parent Portal a couple of days before school starts. As an alternative, we will post your first hour class on the front doors no later than 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14th . Eighth grade students will report to first hour on the first day of school, where you will receive your full schedule, locker assignment, and student ID.
Parents of 8th graders, please send a copy of a current (June 2019 or later) proof of residence with your student on the first day of school. The proof can be a gas, water, or electric bill, or home mortgage or lease agreement. Even though you submitted a proof of residence in the spring, the district requires it to be updated prior to the start of school.
Every Southridge student will be required to purchase an agenda for $10.00. If you purchase your agenda online, 7th graders may pick them up at 7th grade orientation; 8th graders may pick them up on the first day of school. Agendas will be on sale in the media center during 7th grade orientation and once school begins. Agendas will be utilized in every class for student organization purposes.
Every Southridge student will be required to wear a student ID at all times while on campus. There is no charge for the first student ID and lanyard. There is a $10.00 fee for any replacement ID's. This ID will be scanned to gain entrance to the building and check out library books. You may purchase your ID online on the school website using My Payments Plus (just like agendas) or in the media center once school begins. Seventh grade students will receive their ID's at 7th Grade Orientation, and 8th graders on the first day of school.
Regarding transportation to and from school, there will be a diagram with instructions released for car riders prior to school starting. We are waiting on final completion of the new gym before finalizing car rider instructions, If you are a bus rider, you can find out your bus information by checking either the MPS home page or the Southridge home page, under "Moore Resources". Clicking the circle with the picture of the bus will take you to the Transportation Home page, where you will find the link to the bus information.
Finally, please mark your calendar and plan to attend Open House on Thursday, August 22nd,
7:30 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers and find out information about the classes as you rotate through his/her class schedule in ten minute "class sessions".
This letter contains a great deal of information, so please don't hesitate to contact me by phone at 7354680 or by email at email@example.com if you have any questions. I look forward to a great year, and I hope you are as well.
Proud to be Your Principal,
