Customize your desktop
At the bottom or side of your screen, you'll see a row of apps, called the shelf. If there's an app you use frequently, you can pin it to the shelf for quick access.
Add, move, or remove apps
You can add an app that you use often to your desktop.
- In the corner of your screen, click the Launcher
Up arrow
.
- Find the app you want to add.
- Right-click the app icon.
- Click Pin to Shelf.
When you pin an app to your shelf, the app will stay there until you move or remove it.
To change the position of an app:
- Click and hold the app you want to move.
- Drag it to a new position.
- Release to put the app in a new spot.
- Right-click the app you want to remove.
- Click Unpin.
Multitask with windows & tabs
You can finish tasks faster by reorganizing and moving your windows and tabs.
Switch between windows quickly
Press & hold Alt, then tap Tab until you get to the window you want to open.
See two windows at the same time
On one of the windows you want to see, click and hold Maximize .
Drag to the left or right arrow .
Repeat for a second window.
Tip: You can also use the shortcut Alt + [ to move left, or Alt + ] to move right.
Use your Chromebook keyboard
Your Chromebook keyboard works just like a regular keyboard, with a few differences.
Unique keys on your Chromebook keyboard
Your unique Chromebook keys usually appear on the top row of your keyboard from left to right.
Use the Search key or the Launcher key to search, show your apps, and interact with Google Assistant. To turn Caps Lock on or off, press Alt + Search |

Tip: If you're using a Windows keyboard with your Chromebook, the Windows key between Ctrl and Alt works as the Search key or the Launcher key

Device Care - Chromebook
To conserve your battery:
- Do not keep multiple tabs open at the same time.
- Do not charge your phone on your Chromebook.
- Close the lid when you are not using it.
- Plug it in at night and fully charge it.
Sign out each night before plugging in to charge.
1. Click the bottom right (time and battery option).
2. Select the "Sign Out" button in the top-left corner of the box.
Reboot your device at least once a week.
Option 1:
- 'Shut down' option: tap the notification area (the section with the WiFi, power and time) and press the top 'Shut down' icon.
- Hit power button to turn back on and log in.
Option 2:
- Hold the Chromebook’s power button for three seconds it will automatically log out of your Google account.
- Hit power button to turn back on and log in.
Delete unnecessary files from Downloads folder once a week.

- Click the launcher button on the bottom left. Use the arrow up to show more options, and select the Files icon.
- Double click the Downloads folder to open.
- Examine the contents, and delete any files that you no longer need. Do not delete your Distance Learning Packet.
If your screen ever turns black and is not responsive, you may need to do a hard reset.
1. Turn off your Chromebook - hold down Power key until unit shuts down.
2. Press and hold the Reload/Refresh key and the Power key at the same time.
3. When your Chromebook begins to power on, release the Refresh key.
