Moore Virtual Academy
Kindergarten to Fifth Grade
Dear Virtual Academy Parent/Guardians,
Hello students and parents! Moore Public Schools is excited to offer a virtual learning option for our students and families again this year. All kindergarten through fifth grade students will be taught by a teacher through Zoom meetings and our Canvas Learning Management System. Fourth and fifth grade will be a blended model using Canvas and Edgenuity. Our teachers are looking forward to working collaboratively with you throughout the year to ensure the best education for your child.
Enrollment in Moore Virtual Academy is a one-year commitment.
A Moore Public Schools teacher certified in either early childhood education and/or elementary education will be instructing all students.
Kindergarten to Fifth Grade Virtual Academy information:
Back to School/ Meet the Teacher
Back to School Night is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9th from 4:00-6:00pm. This will provide an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and pick up class information and/or materials that you will need. Back to School Night will be held at the school your child’s teacher is assigned. *
*Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade will be held at Briarwood Elementary
*3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be held at Timber Creek Elementary
Moore Virtual Academy will teach the following core subjects to your child. We use State and district approved curriculum resources and teach the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS).
- English Language Arts
- Science (4th and 5th grade use Edgenuity)
- Social Studies (4th and 5th grade use Edgenuity)
*Physical Activity log will be required weekly.
STAR Reading and Math Assessments
STAR Reading and Math assessments will be administered in-person to all K-5 students five times per year.
Virtual Academy students still have access to receive breakfast and lunch at their home school site. Please contact the principal at your home school to determine the best time to go and eat at school.
Attendance will be taken daily and determined by attendance at scheduled class Zoom meetings with the teacher. To receive credit for a course, a student cannot be absent more than ten (10) days each semester. Oklahoma State law requires school officials to keep attendance records and report excessive absences to the District Attorney’s office. Ten (10) unexcused absences within a semester constitutes excessive and thereby may be reported to the District Attorney’s office.
Teachers will make every effort to ensure your child stays on track to complete assignments; it is up to the parent/guardians to make sure students are completing assignments on time. Failure to continually complete or submit work could result in removal from Moore Virtual Academy.
Students who are failing at the end of each 9-week period will be required to return to in-person learning.
We are looking forward to an exciting year of virtual learning! It will take all of us working together to guarantee the best educational experience for your child. Communication is key! If you have any additional questions or concerns, you may contact Moore Virtual Academy at 735-4647 or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
