District Grading Policy
The following information relates to MPS School Board Policy #7045 related to Grading.
Grading Scale
A - 90-100
B - 80-89
C - 70-79
D - 60-69
F - 59 and below
Grading practices
No one single assessment or single assignment shall count for more than 10% of the student's grade.
Junior High Courses
both on-level and honors
50% - Daily Work
40% - Assessments
10% - Semester Test
High School On-Level Courses
includes Honors Oklahoma History
50% - Daily Work
40% - Assessments
10% - Semester Test
High School AP Courses
all Advanced Placement courses in Social Studies
40% - Daily Work
50% - Assessments
10% - Semester Test
"Daily Work" - includes all daily classroom work, homework, bell work, in-class exploration/inquiry activities, small-scale/quick writings, etc. -- basically shorter scope elements typically completed within an individual classroom period
"Assessments" - includes quizzes, chapter/module tests, unit tests, larger-scale/multi-day projects, essays/longer focused writings, etc. -- think "bigger ticket" type of items
"Semester Test" - your comprehensive semester test or project -- "comprehensive" is the key
Assessment and test retake policy
The purpose of assessments is to measure the extent to which students have mastered the established learning objectives.
If a summative assessment (e.g., final unit, chapter, or module exam) results in a class average below 70%, a minimum of two additional class periods will be dedicated to reviewing the assessed content. Following this review, students will be given an opportunity to retake the assessment. The highest of the two scores will be recorded in the gradebook.
This policy does not apply to semester exams. Semester exams are not eligible for retakes.
