Most students' academic journeys look similar until they reach junior high and high school. At those crucial points, MPS students can begin to explore their personal interest areas, such as fine arts, languages, STEM, computers, athletics, and more. The new Pathways graduation requirements will begin with the class of 2029.

Diploma Requirements for the Class of 2029
The Oklahoma State Department of Education introduced high school graduation requirements that affect students graduating in 2029. (These are students who are in 8th grade during the 2024-25 school year.) 
 
 

English - 4 Units

  • English 1: Grammar, Composition & Literature
  • English 2: Composition & World Literature
  • English 3: Composition & American Literature
  • English 4: Composition and English Literature

Math - 4 Units

  • 1 unit of Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 taught in contextual methodology
  • 3 units from course options: Algebra 2, Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, or Geometry taught in contextual methodology, PreCalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Mathematics of Finance, and options approved by OSDE
  • Approved coursework with content and rigor equal to or above Algebra 1.

Science - 3 Units

  • 1 unit of Biology
  • 1 unit of Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics
  • 1 Unit of Additional Science ma (or?) History

Social Studies - 3 Units

  • 1 unit of World History
  • 1 unit of U.S. History
  • .5 unit of American Studies (Government)
  • .5 unit of Oklahoma History

Pathway - 6 Units

  • 6 units
  • 0.5 unit of Achieve Moore Success
  • 0.5 unit of Senior Capstone
  • 5 additional Pathway units

Elective Courses - 3 Additional

Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP)

All Oklahoma high school students must complete an Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP) starting in 9th grade, then annually updating their document. Each year, students will:

  • Take a Career Assessment
  • Write goals for their post-secondary plans
  • Complete/update an Education Plan, to include course and pathway information.

Students must also complete a Workplace Learning Activity sometime during their four years of high school.

What is a Pathway?
MPS offers a variety of Pathways for students to explore while they're in junior high and high school. These courses are designed for students to explore careers in a given field that ultimately help them prepare for college, CareerTech programs, the military, and/or the workforce. Every student is required to choose a pathway that correlates to their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).
