Community Says Farewell to Moore Old School
MOORE, Okla. (May 21, 2026) — Members of the Moore Public Schools community gathered at the Moore Old School this evening for a final farewell to the building that shaped the city for almost a century.
 
Members of the Moore High School choir sang their alma mater and other songs throughout the evening as people caught up and reminisced about their time at the Old School. 
 
One special guest was Lonnie Davoult. At 102 years old, he happily shared that he attended the Moore Old School in 1935 while in 4th grade and said he graduated from the school in 1942.
 
Dr. Robert Romines and members of the MPS administrative team welcomed community members and shared stories they've heard over the years.
 
Families had the chance to take a last look at the old spaces that served as classrooms down the first-floor hallway and go inside the auditorium for a treat and to hear the choir. Attendees could also review rendering displays of the Moore Old School rebuild lining the main entrance.
 
As families made their way out, a display of bricks from the Old School was on view. They were encouraged to select a brick as a souvenir, with many taking an extra one for a sibling or family member who attended the site but could not make the event.
 
MPS also provided an information flyer with dates and photos of the Moore Old School, and gave attendees a small etched plate featuring the iconic main entrance and the established date to place with their brick.   
 
The demolition process is expected to begin early this summer. The photos and items that were in the Moore Old School for decades have been preserved in storage until the rebuild is complete.
