- Counselor's Message
Yockey, Marybeth - Counselor
-
As school counselor at Red Oak, my goal is to help develop and implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that is an integral part of the entire school program. I am dedicated to serving students, parents, and teachers. My goal is to help empower students with self-knowledge, positive interpersonal skills, and coping strategies for issues that elementary children typically face.
To help meet that goal, the following counseling services are available:
Classroom Guidance- I visit every classroom for a lesson twice a month. I like to have a lot of fun in my classes, and we will do a lot of interactive and hands on learning. Some of the topics I often cover are conflict management skills, friendship skills, coping with feelings, safety, getting ready for junior high, and many more.
Community Referrals- If you should ever find a need for connections within the community, I am here to help. I often provide referral information for outside counseling services, as well as referrals to various agencies that are ready to help in a time of need.
Individual Counselor Visits- Sometimes students need a little extra help to get through their school day. Whether it is a bout of homesickness, or a conflict between friends, I am here to help. These issues can often be solved in a short time, and your student can get back to class with renewed focus and calmer feelings. Students can visit with me through self- referral, teacher referral, or a parent request.
Building Test Coordinator- I coordinate state testing for the school in the Spring. I will need lots of help with test proctor volunteers at that time if you are interested!
Please let me know if I can be of assistance in anyway. I am looking forward to working with you this year.
Sincerely,
Mary Beth Yockey, M. Ed
