Speech & Debate

WHAT: Competitive based class which provides opportunities for students to travel the state/country competing in a variety of acting, speaking, and/or debate events against the best of the best.

WHEN: Tournaments are held on various weekends throughout the year (see schedule on website). Debate is Friday only and Saturday mornings while the other events compete on Saturday. The only exceptions are Districts, Regional, State, and out of state tournaments.

TIME COMMITMENT: I.E. students will practice Monday from 3:30-6:00, Extemp will rehearse Tuesdays 3:30-6:00, and debate will practice 3:30-6:00 on Wednesdays (students needing to leave early for church should inform instructor and may be dismissed) during first semester. The second semester schedule will be add a Thursday, 3:30-6:00 practice for I.E. competitors. Additional practices may be scheduled as needed. Students have the opportunity to practice daily. Depending on how competitive your child intends to be, they may ask for additional sessions. Outside of that, the team hosts monthly unity events and tries to fundraise once a month. COST: each student will be asked to pay $50 a semester for dues. Dues must be paid before your student is eligible to compete at their first O.S.S.A.A. competition. 

DRESS: competitors must be in a suit. A detailed list can be found on my website in the competitive speech and debate handbook, "tournament attire" section.
