Federal Waivers for Free School Meals End June 30 in Oklahoma

MOORE, Okla. (June 30, 2022) — The final waiver that provided free school meals for public school students throughout the pandemic ends today. Moore Public Schools’ families must apply for the Free and Reduced Lunch program to continue receiving meal benefits for their students when school begins on Thurs., Aug. 11.

The free and reduced meal form is available on July 8 and may be found here: https://mooremeals.com

The federal government authorized waivers in 2020 allowing school districts and summer meal sites across the U.S. to serve meals to students safely throughout the pandemic. The waivers were reauthorized, providing free meals to all students during the 2021-22 school year, but they come to an end this month.

The cost for MPS meals for the 2022-23 school year is set to:

  • Breakfast: $1.50 regular; $.30 reduced
  • Lunch: $3 regular; $.40 reduced

Additionally, families who qualify for free and reduced meals may also qualify for the federal Affordable Connectivity Benefit which offsets the cost of at-home internet. The ACB may be filled out only after the free and reduced meal form is complete. The ACB form is found here: https://www.affordableconnectivity.gov/
